The first same sex couple in Shropshire to ?marry? under the new civil partnership legislation tied the knot in an historic ceremony at Shrewsbury Register Office today.
Peter Roscoe and Geoffrey Hardy, of Castlefields, Shrewsbury, signed the register at 8am on the dot, becoming one of the first couples in England to take advantage of the new law as civil partnerships came into force in England and Wales today.
In Shrewsbury, dozens of friends and well-wishers packed into the small room for the ceremony, which involved a countdown to 8am and saw the couple facing the congregation to take their vows.
The couple, who met 27 years ago on a London bus, were one of six in the county to be taking part in civil ceremonies today, three of whom were due to sign the register in Shrewsbury.
